
Assistant Teacher Job Description
The ideal candidate will have a schedule that allows for flexibility within our center hours of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and at least two years of college credits toward an education-related degree. At least one year working in a licensed child care facility is required.
In order to qualify as an assistant teacher, you MUST meet the qualifications of the Minnesota Administrative Rules, 9503.0033, (Rule 3).

Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationships with each family and encourage their involvement in the program.

Be responsible for implementing daily activities as assigned by the Lead Teacher.

Help before and after classroom hours by planning, organizing, and implementing new ideas and projects.

Take prompt, positive, and helpful action with children when needed.

Provide assistance and patience for new and transitioning children.

Be responsible for maintaining order among children in a positive manner.

Interact with children in a way that conveys respect and nurturing.

Assist with all activities, including lunch, snack, naps, and toileting/diapers.

Be responsible for the cleaning and upkeep of the classroom, materials, and break room.

Take proper care when/if a child becomes ill.

Maintain health regulations for staff and children.

Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member.

Complete 1%, 1½%, or 2% of hours worked in a year in in-service as required by law.

Be current in first aid and CPR.

Any other jobs/duties that are assigned by the Lead Teacher, Director, or Assistant Director.
Physical demands of this position include:

You will be required to lift/push/carry/pull up to 30 pounds frequently, rarely up to 50 pounds.

You must frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.

You must be able to sit on the floor/ground frequently.

You must be able to be outside in cold or hot weather.
